Kerala: CPM unhappy with Kannur leadership over political violence

Even as the CPM is getting ready for the state conference in a day, the party is under the shadow of political violence.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the CPM is getting ready for the state conference in a day, the party is under the shadow of political violence. The brutal murder of Youth Congress leader Shuhaib hasn’t gone down well with the leadership.

The state leadership is reportedly unhappy with the Kannur leadership for its failure to restrict the cadre.

Even as the party is going for the state conference, there is pressure on senior leaders due to the general sentiment against murder politics.

Senior CPM leader and politburo member M A Baby on Tuesday came out against political killings in the state. “Political issues should not be resolved through murder. Political parties should take a strong stance in the matter,” Baby told the media.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who remained silent for six days was forced to respond on Sunday, while the CPM state leadership has been reiterating his stance that the party has nothing to do with the murder.

Veteran leader V S Achuthanandan too conde-mned Shuhaib’s murder on Monday. Whether the CPM will choose to discuss the issue in its state conference is yet to be seen.

“It was a local incident. The party is of the view that there should be strong action to ensure that such incidents are not repeated,” said a  leader.
