Kerala: Nipah warriors to be honoured on Doctors’ Day

The Health Department’s programme to honour those who did exemplary service during the virus outbreak will begin at 10 am and will be held as part of Doctors’ Day observance.

KOZHIKODE: The city will offer rich tributes to heroes who waged a successful battle against Nipah. Two public functions, one by the City Corporation and another by the Health Department, will be inaugurated here on Sunday by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Health Minister K K Shylaja, respectively.

Ministers, government officers, doctors and medical staff will be honoured at the civic reception organised by the city corporation at the Tagore Centenary Hall at 6 pm. The CM will inaugurate the event and present awards to those who did stellar work when the district was under the grip of Nipah.

The Health Minister will inaugurate the programme to be presided over by Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan. Transport Minister A K Saseendran will be the chief guest.

The persons to be honoured include: Kozhikode District Collector U V Jose, Malappuram District Collector Amit Meena, virologist Dr G Arun Kumar, Dr A S Anoop of Baby Memorial Hospital, Corporation Health Officer Dr R S Gopakumar, family of nurse Lini Puthussery, Dr Abdul Gafoor of Apollo Hospital, Chennai, Kozhikode Medical College principal Dr V R Rajendran, Superintendent Sajith Kumar KG, ICD Superindentent Dr P P Rajagopal, SSB Superintendent Dr K M Kuriakose, Medicine Department Head Dr N K Thulaseedharan and Nodal Officer Dr Chandni R .

The Health Minister will also distribute awards to doctors on the occasion.Doctors’ Day is being observed on July 1 in memory of Dr B C Roy, the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, who brought laurels to the realms of medicine and politics with his exemplary public service.
