Central team to visit flood-hit districts today

A Central team, led by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, will visit the flood-hit district on Saturday.

ALAPPUZHA: A Central team, led by  Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, will visit the flood-hit district on Saturday. The team will reach the police parade ground from Kochi in a helicopter and will visit various places in the district.

The Central team will also visit Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. Union Minister of State for Tourism Alphons Kannanthanam, State Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar, National Disaster Management Authority member R K Jain, state chief secretary Tom Jose, additional chief secretary P H Kurian, Ministry of Home Affairs joint secretary Sanjeev Kumar Jindal and National Disaster Response Force IG Ravi Joseph Lokku will be part of the team. The district administration has given direction to officials to open more relief camps in the flood-affected areas. The Civil Supplies Department has supplied food grains in flood-hit areas in boats from Changanassery depot.

Innocent seeks Central sanction for seawall

Innocent, MP of Chalakkudy constituency recently visited Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking a speedy sanction of the project to construct a seawall at Kondugallur coastal regions. Earlier, the MP was blocked by youth congress activists while he was in Chalakkudy and did not visit the coastal regions where people were suffering due to the heavy rain and high waves. He visited the Central Minister on July 13.
