Vizhinjam panel’s final sitting to be held today

The sitting would be held at the Commission’s office at Panampilly Nagar in Kochi.

KOCHI: The Vizhinjam Commission constituted to probe the irregularities alleged in the deal signed between the UDF Government and Adani Group will hold it final sitting on Thursday. The sitting would be held at the Commission’s office at Panampilly Nagar in Kochi.

During the inquiry, the commission headed by Justice C N Ramachandran Nair checked whether the government incurred any loss from Vizhinjam port project deal as stated in a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). The Adani Group had sought more time to substantiate the agreement signed with the government for developing Vizhinjam port. The commission in the last sitting would be hearing from the representatives of Adani Group.

The commission in its sitting held on Tuesday stated it has no intention to summon the CAG as part of the enquiry. The commission also stated since the entire project is funded by the government and Adani group only plays the project execution role, whether auditing by a public agency was required. However, the government pleader claimed since the project is based on PPP model, CAG has the right to examine the feasibility of the project. The government also submitted all the documents related to the project were produced before the commission.
