MALAYIDAMTHURUTH: Nimisha Thampi, a final-year BBA student of MES College Marampilly, was in the house along with the grandmother while his father Thampi, an auto driver, and mother Salomy, a private company employee nearby, had gone to work. Though Nimisha was rushed to the hospital, she breathed her last on the way. Anna, a Class IX student, is her sister.

The police seized the weapon from the possession of the accused. Local residents caught Biju, who escaped after committing the murder, from a nearby building and handed him over to the police.
“The accused confessed the crime. A detailed investigation into the background of the accused has begun. The knife used to attack the girl was not brought by Molla, but was being used by the girl in the kitchen to cut vegetables,” said Kochi Range IG Vijay Sakhare.

Meanwhile, the irate local residents damaged migrant workers’ camps and assaulted a few of them. The police took nearly 30 persons into custody following the tense situation  that prevailed in the area before releasing all of them later. A few migrant workers took refuge at the Edathala police station. A large posse of police personnel is camping in the area and officers said the situation is under control now.

According to the officers, Biju had been doing loading works with private companies in Malayidamthuruthu and staying at a rented building near the victim’s residence.“When we reached the house on hearing the screaming, Nimisha was found lying in a pool of blood. I checked her pulse rate and immediately took her to a hospital in a car. During this time the assailant, who wore a red T-shirt, ran away. However, the local residents identified him and caught him from a nearby building,” said Roopesh K S, a local resident working as a nurse with the Aluva District Hospital.

The sleuths brought Biju to the crime scene and the companies where he had worked as part of evidence collection. The accused will be produced before the court after completing the proceedings, they added.
It may be recalled that Jisha, a 30-year-old law student, was raped and murdered at her home in Vattolippadi, near Perumbavoor, on April 28, 2016. Ameerul Islam, an Assamese migrant, was arrested after two months from Kanchipuram.
