THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Income Tax Department has confiscated the controversial 50 acres owned by former Vigilance chief DGP Jacob Thomas in Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu.

According to officers, Thomas bought the land in a benami transaction. The land was bought from 33 persons through their power of attorney in 2001. In his assets declaration to the state government in 2002 and 2003, he had mentioned the property as owned by his wife. But in later years, the property is missing from the declaration.

But as per registration records, the land is owned by Kochi-based Isra Agrotech. The deed was in the name of Thomas in his capacity as director of Isra Agrotech. Curiously, Thomas’ name does not figure in the official records of the firm.

In the registration documents, the firm’s directors are Baby Thomas and Levin Thomas.
