Pinarayi hails Kerala Police’s tech-savviness, communication links

THRISSUR: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday waxed eloquent on the giant strides made by Kerala Police, lauding the force’s success in optimising the use of technology and communication. 
Addressing the gathering after taking the salute at the passing out parade (POP) of CPOs of Kerala Armed Police 1 and 2 Battalions and driver CPOs at the Kerala Police Academy at Ramavarmapuram here, the Chief Minister said the state police managed to reach the numero uno position on the tech front in no time.  
“The Facebook page of Kerala Police already has 8,40,000 likes which outnumber even those of the  New York Police Department (NYPD). This should be seen as a public endorsement  of the help extended by the police,” he said.A mobile application called ‘Raksha’ for ensuring better services from the Police Department was unveiled,  the CM said.

However, cyber crimes have been on the rise in the state. The police department is equipped to deal with the threat of cyber crimes as well,” he added. 

Of the 766 personnel who passed out from the academy on Monday, 320 officers belonging to the KAP 1 Battalion are from Ramavarmapuram Academy while 338 officers from KAP 2  were trained at the Battalion headquarters at Muttikkulangara in Palakkad. The 108 driver CPOs underwent six months’ training at Ramavarmapuram.  The cadets who excelled during the training programme received awards.
