Another H1N1 patient succumbs at SCBMCH; death toll rises to 24 in Odisha

CUTTACK: A 44-year-old man of Mahakalpada in Bari block of Jajpur district succumbed to swine flu at SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday night, increasing the death toll in H1N1 to 24 in the State.

He was admitted to SCBMCH on August 14 and kept under ventilator. Despite efforts by doctors, he died of renal failure at about 11.45 pm on Thursday, said Nodal Officer of swine flu Prof Manoranjan Patnaik.

With this, the total number of swine flu deaths at SCBMCH this year has increased to eight. So far, 92 suspected swine flu patients have been admitted to SCBMCH of which 49 have tested positive to H1N1 infection. About 28 of them have been discharged after undergoing treatment at two special isolated wards.

As on Friday, 21 patients, including 13 positive, 5 suspected and 3 negative cases are undergoing treatment in the wards. Besides, the SCBMCH has received 9 swine flu patients who were referred from different private health hospitals, sources said.
