BHUBANESWAR: Panic gripped the passengers travelling in a city bus after they noticed plumes of smoke coming out of the vehicle on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at about 1:15 am when the city bus was on its way to Station Square from Dumduma.

There were at least 12 passengers in the bus when the driver noticed huge plumes of smoke and immediately halted the bus near Pokhariput area. He asked the passengers to evacuate the vehicle. On receiving information, a fire-fighting vehicle rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. “We reached the spot and saw that smoke was coming out of the bus. But, the vehicle had not caught fire,” Assistant Fire Officer Rohit Kumar said.

“The driver told us that the bus had developed some snag in its throttle which led to overheating of the engine,” he added. The fire personnel also cleared the crowd assembled over there to witness the incident.
