We have Tantra but no Swatantra: RSS chief

SAMBALPUR: India has attained freedom because of sacrifices by brave men and women but have we been able to realise their dream of a Swatantra-Swabhimani Bharat. The question was raised by Mohan Madhukar Bhagwat, chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh while addressing the gathering at Mandalia ground here on Monday.

Paying tributes to freedom fighters Veer Surendra Sai and Subhas Chandra Bose on their birth anniversaries, the Sar Sanghachalak said, the two shared the idea of armed struggle. Bhagwat said, there was a need to understand and execute the motive of freedom fighters behind the Independence struggle.

“Social justice must prevail and there must be an end to feudalism. Everyone should inculcate a duty for the nation and self-govern himself,” he said.

Bhagwat also indirectly sent out word of caution and guidance to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on good governance. Stressing on a ‘Sampann, Sukhakarak and Sundar Bharat’, he said there was a system and Government as sevak was supposed to restore it.

Sevaks work only on order of the people and if people sleep, the sevaks will not work and called upon the people to remain alert and awake. We have ‘Tantra’ (governance) but no Swatantra (self-governance) and RSS is working to instill dedication for the country and its people, he added.

Earlier, RSS workers took out rallies through the city before reaching the venue. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, State BJP president Basanta Panda and National BJP secretary Suresh Pujari were also sitting in the audience which was addressed by tribal leader Braja Singh Bhoi. Bhoi said he carried a wrong notion about RSS. Later, the RSS chief felicitated mountaineer Jogabhyasa Bhoi for scaling Mount Everest.
