Two school students drown in Koel

A Class XII student of an English medium school died after drowning in river Koel at Jamshera Ghat near here while four others were rescued by villagers on Wednesday.

ROURKELA: A Class XII student of an English medium school died after drowning in river Koel at Jamshera Ghat near here while four others were rescued by villagers on Wednesday. In another incident, body of a student was retrieved by villagers from the river near Koel Nagar.

Bondamunda IIC Sushant Das said the deceased Satyajit Ray (17) was a student of Delhi Public School (DPS). Satyajit along with four friends had gone to the river at Jamshera Ghat for bathing. At about 11.30 am, some villagers saw all of them drowning but could rescue four. A constable Sitaram Bhumij present at the site also jumped to their rescue. Ray got lost in the muddy water and was later found dead. The body was handed over to his family after autopsy, the IIC said. 

In another incident at Baikuntha Ghat near Koel Nagar under Sector-19 police limits, a Class VI student of St Paul’s School drowned in Koel river on Tuesday. He has been identified as A Lakra.

Investigation revealed that Lakra had gone to take bath with some friends, but his friends did not inform Lakra’s parents immediately  after the incident out of fear. Later, they informed police leading to recovery of the body on Wednesday. The body was sent for autopsy.
