BHUBANESWAR: The State BJP functionaries on Sunday held a preparatory meeting here ahead of the national executive committee meet next month. As the committee of the party is meeting here after 20 years, the meeting presided by State unit president Basanta Panda decided to make the event a grand success.

National BJP general secretary and Odisha in-charge Arun Singh said the two-day national executive meeting will begin at 11 am on April 15 and conclude in the evening next day. A core committee of the party will meet on April 13 to prepare agenda for the meeting. The agenda will be discussed and ratified in a meeting of national office bearers on April 14.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the meet while national party president Amit Shah will be present for three days. Besides, Chief Ministers of 13 BJP-ruled States would attend the meeting, Singh said.

A team of senior leaders of the party visited several city hotels and Janata Maidan to locate a suitable venue for the meeting. The venue will be decided taking into consideration the security aspects, Singh added.

As a large number of party delegates will come from outside the State, it is the responsibility of the State unit to provide suitable accommodation and other logistic supports to the invitees. The meeting deliberated all these issues and handed over tasks to different committees constituted for smooth delivery of services.

Responding to a query, Singh said the State Capital was chosen as the venue for the national executive committee meeting following a request from the State president. “The national president of the party decided to hold the meeting in the land of Lord Jagannath,” he quipped.

Union Minister of State for Petrolatum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, national joint secretary (organisation) Soudan Singh, BJP MLAs and presidents of party’s frontal wings attended the meeting.
