Court examines first witness in terror link case

The District and Sessions Judge Court here on Tuesday recorded the statement of a witness in suspected Al Qaeda Indian Sub-continent (AQIS) operative Abdul Rehman’s case. 

CUTTACK: The District and Sessions Judge Court here on Tuesday recorded the statement of a witness in suspected Al Qaeda Indian Sub-continent (AQIS) operative Abdul Rehman’s case. 
Salim Khan alias Ramjan of Gujarpur was the first witness who was examined in connection with the terror link case, said Public Prosecutor Ajit Patnaik.Salim told the court that he knew Abdul Rehman. He is a Maulavi by profession and being a preacher of Muslim religion he used to tour different Madrassas, to propagate Islam.

Salim also told the court that he along with Rehman and some others had set up the Madrassa at Bilteruan village under Tangi police limits where poor Muslim children were being imparted education related to Islam free of cost.They had formed a ‘All Harman Trust’ in 2010 to receive donation for running the Madrassa, the witness told adding that being chief executive of the trust, Rehman was receiving all donations.  The court recorded statement of the witness and posted the next hearing to December 18.

It may be mentioned here that, basing on the information obtained from Information Bureau (IB), Rehman, was arrested by Delhi police from his house at Paschimakachha village under Salepur block on December 15, 2015 on the charges of radicalising youth for terror activities.After a day, Cuttack Commissionerate Police had registered a case against Rehman in Jagatpur police station.
