Eminent screenplay writer Subodh Patnaik passes away

Eminent screenplay writer Dr Subodh Patnaik passed away following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Khannagar here on Saturday. He was 70 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Patnaik, who had started his career as a dialogue writer in Brajaraj Movie’s ‘Danda Balunga’ in 1984, wrote scripts for several super hit films, including ‘Sabu Mayare Baya’, ‘Jananee’, ‘Jaiphula’, ‘Jaga Hata Re Pagha’, ‘Sankha Sindura’, ‘Sahari Bagha’, ‘Mamata Mage Mula’, ‘Baje Bainsi Nache Ghungura’, ‘Chaka Bhaunri’ and ‘Pua Mora Kala Thakura’.


Patnaik, who earned name and fame for his commercial and punch-packed dialogues, also penned dialogues for more than 60 Odia films and several TV serials.
Though he was a doctor by profession, he had a keen interest in acting and writing books. He also acted in more than 50 Odia plays and received Odisha Sahitya Akademi award for his book ‘Ho Bhagate’ in 1990. People from different walks of life paid their last respects by offering floral tribute to his mortal remains at his residence.
