BHUBANESWAR: NBCC (Ind, a Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has signed a MoU with Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar for construction of the institute which will facilitate empowering youth in Odisha. The SDI Bhubaneswar is a training setup being promoted by eight PSUs in the oil and gas sector under joint CSR schemes.
The MoU has been signed between Executive Director (Engg) Yogesh JP Sharma on behalf of NBCC and CEO of SDI Bhubaneswar NN Rao in presence of Director (HR) of IOCL and Chairman of SDI Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra. Hailing the agreement as another step towards fulfilment of ‘Skill India’ mission, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NBCC (India) Ltd Anoop Kumar Mittal said the CPSE wants to have skilled and future-ready workforce to be a part of the highly-efficient team.
“We are working towards creating a well-defined system of identifying and training the workforce in the construction sector, which comprises port, irrigation, roads, infrastructures and buildings,” he added. Continuing as a prime mover in construction sector, NBCC is embarking to develop SDI Bhubaneswar as the country’s most promising skill academy in the with the Government’s Skill India mission. It aims at enhancing the skill set and knowledge set of individuals so that they can adapt themselves o the fast-changing business environment.
NBCC has pledged to impart training to 40,000 workers (including both onsite and offsite) in next five years. While the first phase of the project having built up area of around 60,000 sq metre will be set up at a cost of `300 crore, in second phase the built up area will be 1.2 lakh sq meter at a cost of `600 crore. The SDI will offer world-class training in industrial welding (six months residential programme), industrial electrician (six months residential programme) and computer data application course (three months non-programme).
