JAIPUR: A 20-year-old woman from Binjharpur area in Jajpur district was allegedly held captive at different locations and raped by four men for 12 days. The incident came to light on Wednesday when she along with her family members filed a case at Binjharpur police station.

As per information provided by the victim in her complaint, police nabbed one of the accused Guria Sethy of Kayana village in the district and efforts are on to nab the three others.Police said Gopinath Behera of her locality had an affair with the woman and on the pretext of marriage, kept physical relationship with her. Later, Guria, who happens to be a distant relative of the woman, mediated for their marriage.  

On June 7, Gopinath called her to a temple for marriage and the two eloped from there. “Gopinath took her to a house in Jajpur and raped her. Later, Guria reached the place and he too raped her for two days,” said a police official, basing on complaint filed by the woman.

Later, the two took the woman to an unidentified location in Bhubaneswar where they confined her in a relative’s house. In the Capital, Gopinath and Guria were joined by two others, Kabula Malik and Saroj. All the four raped the victim for 10 days.

“They held her captive for 10 days in the Capital and gang-raped her after drugging her,” police said. She managed to escape on June 19 evening and inform her parents over phone about the ordeal, police said. Her family members rescued her from a place near Bhubaneswar and rushed her to a local hospital.  The victim then approached police  on Wednesday. Acting on the information, they managed to nab one of the accused on Thursday. “We have recorded the statement of the victim and a case has been registered in this connection. One person has been arrested and search is on for the three other accused,” police said, adding that they would be arrested soon.
