BARIPADA: In a painful incident, a woman buried her stillborn minutes after delivering him in a field near her house in Dhipasahi village within Sarat police limits of Udala in the district.

The woman, Masuri Singh, was seven months pregnant with her second child when she delivered in a field near her house where she had gone to attend nature’s call early on Wednesday. On learning that her male child was a stillborn, she buried him in a pile of cow dung  and later informed her parents.

Masuri, who is married to Hindu Singh of Keshapada, went to stay with her parents after he left for Kerala about six months back. While at Dhipasahi, she came in contact with another man, Rabi Singh of Jalghut village in Nedam panchayat, and married him though she was pregnant by then. When Hindu’s parents learnt about the matter, they informed him. He rushed back to Keshapada on Thursday and on Saturday went to Dhipasahi to bring her back home when the matter came to light.

Hindu was informed by his in-laws that Masuri had given birth to a stillborn male child and also buried him.

As Masuri did not reveal where she had dumped the baby, some villagers informed police, who reached the spot and recovered the body buried under a cow dung pile. Masuri said, “Not knowing what to do with the child, I buried him. As he was dead, I decided to bury him.”

“I was staying in Kerala when I was informed about the turn of events and reached the village to bring her back. I got to know that she has delivered and buried the child saying it was stillborn,” said Hindu. The couple has a daughter.

Meanwhile, police said investigation is on and it is yet to be ascertained under what circumstances the woman buried her own newborn baby.
