Minutes after Tamil news channels flashed about Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, social media users of Twitter and Facebook began reacting to the unconfirmed reports.

It barely took minutes, when hashtags like #RIPAmma, #RIPJayalalithaa and #PrayersForAmma started making rounds on Twitter and some of them started posting their “condolences.

The hospital in an official communique, later informed that the "The honourable chief minister continues to be on life support ... Some TV channels are wrongly reporting that honourable Chief Minister is no more. This is totally baseless and false. They are advised to rectify this mistake based on this press release"

After a while when the crowds holding placards and pictures of Jayalalithaa outside Apollo Hospital mellowed down, Twitter saw yet another trend, "RIP Thanthi TV". Social media users slammed the TV channel in their tweets for spreading unconfirmed rumours about Jayalalithaa's health.
