COIMBATORE: One more H1N1 death was reported from Nachipalayam near Eachanari here on Sunday. A daily wage labourer, D Mallika (48) died in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) here. Her husband and daily wage labourer, M Dhandapani (58), had died of the H1N1 virus on Thursday.
The couple was suffering from fever and cough last week and received treatment in a private hospital. But as their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to the CMCH.
Dhandapani died while being brought to the hospital on Thursday. His wife was admitted in the CMCH late on Saturday night, but she too passed away the next morning.
The couple’s children — son aged 27 and daughter aged 25 — were admitted to the CMCH as a precautionary measure as they have been taking care of their parents. Both were given Tamiflu tablets and put on IV-drips.
While the couple’s son is into the business of water cans, their daughter works at a lab in a private college.
“My cousins got admitted in the CMCH after their mother passed away. We have given the required tests at a private lab. The test reports were negative for H1N1. Hence, they have been discharged and are back home,” their cousin P Vairaprakasam claimed. The hospital authorities were, however, unavailable for comments.
