TIRUCHY, CHENNAI: A 16-year-old school student was stabbed by a 23-year-old youth in a suspected case of spurned love affair in Lalgudi on Saturday. As the latter’s advances seeking relationship was turned down by the girl, the accused youth after stabbing the victim in a fit of rage committed suicide by hanging himself.

Meanwhile, the injured girl was said to be recuperating after being treated at the Tiruchy Government Hospital. Sources identified the victim as the 16-year-old girl studying in Class XI in a school nearby Alunthalaipur village in Lalgudi taluk.

It is said that the victim a week ago was approached by an engineering graduate Manikandan (23), from the same village with a love proposal. However, the girl rejected the proposal and also informed her father about this. A week ago, as the victim’s father had reportedly advised the youth to leave her daughter alone, the angry youth was said to have hatched plans for assaulting the girl.

On Saturday morning, as the victim was returning home from a nearby complex, the youth followed the girl with a knife and stabbed her neck, shoulders and stomach following which she collapsed on the spot.

Apparently, the onlookers rushed the victim to a nearby Primary Health Centre (PHC), from there she was referred to Lalgudi GH, and finally to Tiruchy GH where the condition of victim was said to be stable.

As the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the Siruganur police over the assault, learning the developments, the accused youth fearing police action was said to have committed suicide by hanging self from a tree in a farmland close to Siruganur.
