Guidance or assistance, train captain is at your service

The names of train captains will be displayed in all reservation charts in the coaches.

COIMBATORE: In a bid to promote a single point of contact for all sorts of guidance, assistance and grievance redressal for onboard passengers, the Indian Railways has introduced a novel concept of ‘Train Captain’ service.

The train captain will be the overall incharge of the train and will be responsible for ensuring passenger amenities throughout the train journey, including availability of water, cleanliness of coaches and toilets, working of electrical fittings such as fans, lights and mobile charging points.

The names of train captains will be displayed in all reservation charts in the coaches. In the near future, it has been planned to send all passengers of a particular train the details of the day’s onboard train captain, via SMS.  

Passengers can also contact railway helpline 138 to know the details.
The train captain will initiate necessary action to redress the problems faced by the passengers instantly.
In case the problem cannot be solved immediately, the train captain will take up the matter with higher officials for necessary action.
“Train captains have been nominated for the Nilgiri Express, (Train nos 12671/12672) Mettupalayam-Chennai Central-Mettupalayam with effect from January 8,” said Salem Divisional Railway Manager Hari Shankar Verma, in a release.

“For these trains, R Rathish (mobile: 7904557219), S Dinesh Kumar (9600425860) and A Sandeep (8681844886)  have been nominated as train captains.
In Tiruchy division, train captain services have been started aboard train no 16178 Tiruchy-Chennai Egmore Rockfort Express.
