Tamil Nadu: Class 9 student sexually abused and murdered at home

The girl was alone in her house at Tiruporur on Sunday evening when an unidentified person entered the house and allegedly raped her and slit her throat.

CHENNAI, VILLUPURAM: A Class IX student was allegedly sexually abused and murdered in her house at Tiruporur on Sunday. The victim was alone at home when the incident occurred. The police suspect that an unidentified person had entered the house and allegedly raped her and slit her throat. “The girl’s dress was torn and there were marks of sexual abuse” said a senior police officer.

“The girl’s mother, a housemaid had gone for work, while her brother and sister had gone to their relative’s house. The siblings returned around 7.30 pm and found the girl’s body and alerted their mother,” the officer said.  

The incident is believed to have occurred between 6 pm and 7 pm on Sunday.
Police sent the body to government hospital at Tiruporur for post-mortem.
Police said the suspect must be a person known to the family. Knowing that the girl was alone at home he had entered the house.

A case has been registered and a special team has been formed to nab the suspect. Woman’s body with stab injuries found Residents of Veerapandi village near Thirukovilur woke up to a gruesome morning on Sunday after the body of a 38-year-old woman of the locality was found dumped near the common water tap. The woman reportedly had a quarrel with her alcoholic husband on the night before and a hunt was on for the absconding man.

According to the police, Ayyappan (43) was a daily wage labourer. He lived at Veerapandi village with wife lakshmi (38) and daughters Gayathri (13) and Sumithra (8). The man reportedly was an alcoholic and often shirked work. He would come home drunk every night, irritating his wife.

On Saturday night, Lakshmi picked up a quarrel with Ayyappan after he came home drunk. When Lakshmi began a diatribe on Ayyappan spending all his earnings on liquor leaving Lakshmi to fend for the family, was met with a volley of abuses from the man.

When the foul language was directed towards them, the girls went to the house of a relative, which was nearby. The neighbours, who had come to mediate left after the children, thinking this was just a regular drunk scuffle.

On Sunday morning around 6 am, some women went to fetch water from the pipe at the end of the street and found Lakshmi sleeping on the curb, with a bed sheet around her. The women tried to wake her and found that she was dead. Underneath the bed sheet, they found that she had sustained stab wounds to her chest.

The Arakandanallur police, which secured the spot and took the body for a postmortem to the government Villupuram medical college and hospital, registered a case of manslaughter against Ayyappan, who was absconding.
