CHENNAI: A series of clashes sparked by an alleged harassment of a young girl resulted in the suspension of 33 students of the prestigious College of Engineering, Anna University.
According to sources, trouble started when two final year students physically harassed a girl, sister of a second year student, who had been to the campus to attend DJ night organised as part of the annual cultural festival of the college, Techofes 2017, on Tuesday.

The duo were allegedly drunk at the time of the incident.“The next morning, the second year students went to raise the matter with the final year students about the harassment case, but got beaten up,” said a student requesting anonymity.
The juniors then consulted the organisers of the fest, said to belong to the rival gang of the alleged troublemakers. Taking it up, the organisers thrashed them, but they brought their friends from outside and assaulted the second year students.

Finally, the college administration stepped in and suspended 33 students, said sources from student community. Some professors too confirmed the action taken against them.
Senior police officers too confirmed the clash. A few students were injured in these incidents. Based on a complaint from the hostel staff, a CSR was issued. However, university officials were not available for comment.
