CHENNAI: Actor Silambarasan has been given police protection at his T Nagar residence following the controversial ‘demonetisation anthem’ that he featured in. Fearing protests from right-wing activists, around eight cops have been posted at his residence.

The song sung by him and penned by Kabilan Vairamuthu lashes out at the government’s demonetisation move last year.

“We have not received any complaint from the actor till now seeking police protection,” said an officer of the T Nagar police. “We have stationed a patrol vehicle and a beat officer outside his residence. Eight personnel were present at the spot from early on Saturday morning.” The police have been stationed to ensure no untoward incident occurrs, especially since the BJP office is nearby.

“We were sent here to ensure that no right-wing forces create any commotion,” said a police official at the spot. “However, it was peaceful and there was no trouble.” Senior BJP leader, H Raja, however said he was not aware of the controversy.
