CHENNAI: The rank list of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2018 was released on Thursday, through the official website, tnea.ac.in. Coimbatore girl Keerthana Ravi topped the merit list and none of the top 10 candidates were from Chennai.

Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan, released the rank list at the university main campus.
Online counselling that was originally scheduled to begin on July 6, has been postponed as State medical counselling will go on till July 10. “While we have not fixed a date for counselling yet, it will happen in mid July after the medical counselling is over,” said a senior Anna University official.

Over 1.53 lakh engineering aspirants applied for the counselling this year, of which 83,727 may be first generation graduates. Around 1.38 lakh students registered for admissions in 2016 and 1.45 lakh in 2017. A total of 1.76 lakh seats are available, a drop from 1.86 lakh last year.

Anbalagan had confirmed that six private engineering colleges did not participate in counselling in 2017. The university management also added 720 seats this year, with the introduction of BE or B Tech courses in their regional campuses at Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore. Furthermore, 1,020 seats from Annamalai University too will be filled up through TNEA 2018

Over 20 students were given ranks based on their random numbers, which were allotted to all students in June. In case, two students have the same normalised score from public exam results, then the student with the higher score in mathematics will be ranked higher.
