Tamil Nadu BJP leader H Raja tenders unconditional apology for derogatory remarks against judiciary

CHENNAI: BJP leader H Raja, who has been accused of making scandalous remarks against the judiciary, tendered an unconditional apology to a division bench of Justices C T Selvam and M Nirmal Kumar, on Monday.

When the suo-moto contempt petition came up before the bench today, the BJP national secretary made his presence and tendered the unconditional apology. "I had turned emotional," he added. And the bench closed the contempt petition.

Alleging that Raja had made certain derogatory remarks against the judiciary, when he was barred for violating a court order that prohibited a Vinayagar idol procession in Meiyapuram in Pudukottai district during September, the bench had suo-motu initiated contempt proceedings and issued summons requiring him to appear before it on Monday.

Though summons returned as unserved, Raja appeared before the bench, today.
