35-year-old Cuddalore farm worker dies of severe fever

CUDDALORE/ MADURAI: Amidst the reports of increasing H1N1 and dengue cases in the district, a 35-year-old farm worker succumbed to severe fever, said to have caused by viral pneumonia infection. While the father of three died in a single night, his family still believes that he died of dengue fever.

According to sources in the health department, G Anbazhaghan of Naduveerapattu developed severe fever on Sunday evening. He was rushed to the government hospital in Cuddalore by his wife Sasikala (27). However, without admitting him there, the patient was taken to a nearby private hospital.

Unable to bring the fever under control, the private hospital doctors referred the patient to Jipmer in Puducherry, where several patients are being treated for severe fever cases. The patient was rushed to Jipmer in the middle of the night where he succumbed to the fever in the wee hours on Monday.

The Jipmer doctors, who treated Anbazhaghan, said that he could have developed the fever caused by viral pneumonia sceptic infection a few days ago but could have left it without caring much, however the fever spiked recently causing the sudden death.

A family member of the deceased quoted the doctors of saying that the severe fever caused the death. Anbazhagan is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. The doctors at the government hospital in Cuddalore are examining the case of the patient, said sources.

Meanwhile, one more person was tested positive for swine flu at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai on Monday. Currently, six persons, including a pregnant woman, are receiving treatment at the hospital’s quarantine H1N1 ward. 

According to hospital sources, V Jeeva (23) of Jaihindpuram was admitted to the GRH a few days ago and gave birth to a baby through cesarean section. Recently, she developed respiratory problems and was tested for swine flu virus.
