Telangana lodges complaint against KRMB for not releasing water

HYDERABAD: The state government lodged a complaint with the Union government over the indifferent attitude of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). Two days after the KRMB gave an interim order releasing just 17 tmc to Telangana State in Krishna waters, state government advisor (irrigation) R Vidyasagar Rao called on Amarjit Singh, OSD to Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti, in Delhi on Wednesday.

Vidyasagar informed Amarjit Singh over the attitude of the KRMB, which failed to follow the Centre’s directive in releasing water to the State. Vidyasagar also lodged complaint against Andhra Pradesh’s Pattiseema project. As AP diverted 45 tmc Godavari waters to Krishna through Pattiseema project, the Telangana State claimed 45 tmc more allocation to TS in Krishna.

Vidyasagar Rao asked Amarjit Singh to direct the Tribunal to consider their demand over Pattiseema. “Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have expressed their displeasure over the attitude of the KRMB. The KRMB should install telemetry system in both the states for calculating the water releases,” Vidyasagar Rao told reporters in Delhi later. He also demanded that the Tribunal to specify TS’ share in Krishna water allocated to combined AP. The Tribunal allotted 811 tmc to combined AP.

The then combined AP allotted 299 tmc to TS. However, TS government was protesting over the basis of this allocation. Vidyasagar Rao wanted the Centre to constitute a committee with officials from both the States to resolve the disputes over the water sharing. The water sharing order given by the KRMB on Monday releasing water to AP and TS in 70:30 ratio was not acceptable to TS as it would render injustice again to Telangana, Vidyasagar Rao said.
