HYDERABAD: Swine flu is spreading fast in the state and the latest victim to the flu is none other than deputy chief minister (revenue) Mohammed Mahmood Ali, who tested positive for the disease.

According to sources in the health department, Mahmood Ali was tested positive for swine flu three days back and he is being treated.

Mahmood Ali is said to be undergoing treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). However, neither the NIMS officials nor the deputy CM’s public relations cell was available for comment on the issue.

Even as health minister Dr C Laxma Reddy emphasised that the situation was well under control and there is no need to panic about the spread of swine flu, the number of people testing positive for the disease is increasing.

The latest addition to the death toll in the state is a ten- month-old child admitted to Gandhi Hospital. The child succumbed to the disease on January 26 night bringing the total number of deaths in the state to eight. Another man who was also admitted to the same hospital is presently undergoing treatment.
