HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court ordered the state government to submit the details of money to be spent on the annual Iftar party to be hosted by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, on the occasion of Ramzan for Muslims at LB Stadium here on June 18.

The court is likely to hear a PIL on Thursday filed on Wednesday, urging it not to permit the government to host the Iftar party. A PIL was filed by a social activist, Lubna Sarwat contending that the government cannot spend money for holding Iftar parties on a largescale, “which is unconstitutional.”

The petitioner claimed by proposing to host Iftar, the government wants to spend `60 lakh of public money. “As per the GO, the government wants to host Iftar in 420 mosques across the state. Hence, such extravaganza should not be permitted,” she pleaded. The bench adjourned the matter to Thursday and said it would look into various issues raised by the petitioner.
