Split likely as Telangana Joint Action Committee suspends two dissidents

Suspended members Nallapu Prahlad and Pittala Ravinder to disclose their future course of action in a presser today

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Joint Action Committee headed by M Kodandaram, which spearheaded the Telangana’s statehood movement, appears to be heading towards a split, going by the full-scale infighting between Kodandaram’s supporters and the dissidents.

TJAC’s steering committee, which met here on Tuesday, suspended dissidents Nallapu Prahlad and Pittala Ravinder from the outfit. The organisation said it acted against the duo as they were speaking against  TJAC’s leadership at the behest of the ruling TRS.

“Rulers are trying to weaken people’s organisations. We are suspending Prahlad and Ravinder who conspired with the ruling establishment against TJAC,” the organisation said. A few minutes later, the two suspended leaders, Prahlad and Ravinder, issued a statement, saying that they would hold a presser on Wednesday to announce their plans. Sources said that the two leaders, who had on Monday conducted a meeting in Hyderabad and mustered the support of 22 TJAC district-level leaders, are planning to split TJAC to set up their own outfit.

It said the steering committee discussed  the recent developments that took place in the wake of Nirudyoga Nirasana rally. “As the rally became a super-hit and TJAC  emerged as the voice of the people, the ruling establishment has intensified its efforts to hatch a bigger conspiracy against TJAC.”

The organisation announced that it would  organise yatras in all districts to exert pressure on the government to resolve people’s issues. It will also expose the diversion of funds allotted to weaker sections in the state budget and hold a protest to pressurise the take measures to stop corporate colleges and schools from collecting exorbitant fees from students.
