HYDERABAD: Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, a man who returned from the Gulf slit her throat while travelling by auto and threw her out of the vehicle, which killed her. And as bystanders tried to catch him, he slashed his own throat.

This chilling streetside drama took place in Vemulawada, a temple town in Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana, on Tuesday.

Police said the 30-year-old man, Pochampalli Ravi, from Jagtial district, married Vasantha (25) in 2011 and moved to Kuwait in search of a job 18 months ago but returned recently. He grew suspicious about his wife and began to harass her, police said, though she denied having any illicit relations.

On Tuesday, the couple and their three children decided to visit Vemulawada, which is Ravi's native place. From the bus stand, they hired an auto to reach Subashnagar and mid-way, Ravi slit his wife's throat with a knife and pushed her out of the moving vehicle. Blood spilled on the auto driver, who stopped the vehicle.

Ravi tried to run away. As bystanders chased him down, he slit his own throat. Ravi was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad where his condition is said to be critical.
