SURVAPET: It was sheer anxiety of some intermediate students that busted a ganja peddling racket and led to the seizure of 100 kg of the contraband packed in cartons. The students, who were told not to open the cartons as they contained question papers of the upcoming examinations, were too curious to control themselves and opened the cartons to receive the shock of their lives: the cartons were filled with ganja.
The incident took place in Gayatri Private Junior College in Suryapet district headquarters. The school has a hostel facility for the students.

On Wednesday night, hostel warden Nagaiah came with 12 big cartons to the hostel and told the students that they would be stored under the beds in some of the rooms.Nagaiah told the students that the cartons had examination question papers. However, after returning to their rooms after the study hours at 11 pm, the curious students opened one of the boxes.

Upon learning about the original content of the boxes, the students immediately alerted the student union leaders who reached the hostel and staged a protest in front of the college, with the ganja cartons. Suryapet police rushed to the spot and recovered the contraband from the 12 cartons. Nagaiah, however, escaped.
Meanwhile, police recovered an auto-rickshaw parked at the hostel and suspected that ganja was transported in the vehicle.

Suryapet town police, who are investigating, suspect that the ganja was brought from Chhatisgarh and was either being transported to Hyderabad or Andhra Pradesh.
