Link Aadhaar, or your land will be ‘benami property': Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao

It seems that the benami land transactions came to the light after purification of land records and linking them with Aadhaar numbers.

HYDERABAD: It seems that the benami land transactions came to the light after purification of land records and linking them with Aadhaar numbers. Though land records were updated across the state, some farmers, especially in Medchal, Rangareddy and some other districts, did not link their agricultural land records with their Aadhaar numbers. If the farmers fail to link their land records with Aadhaar, the government will treat those agricultural lands as benami lands.

“Linking Aadhaar number with the pattadar passbook is a must.  Farmers have to link Aadhaar with their passbooks, failing which their lands will be considered as benami,” Rao chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao told officials at a review meeting here on Friday. Rao noted that some people in Medchal, Rangareddy and some other districts had not linked their Aadhaar numbers with land records. Such people should give their Aadhaar details to the officials at the earliest lest they  would be viewed as possessing benami lands, he cautioned.

The chief minister also decided to give pattadar passbooks to those cultivating assigned lands and said that farmers having assigned lands too should be given pattadar passbooks without fail. He directed the officials that lands in the possession of beneficiaries should be identified and clarity given on the ownership rights. The passbooks should be given only to landowners. “Every entry in the passbooks should be scrutinised thoroughly and there shall not be any error in the entries. While doing so, there should not be any undue haste,” Rao said. Meanwhile, he asked the officials to ensure villages across the State are provided with drinking water by March end.

Dole for unemployed in TS soon?
Hyderabad: The state government is likely to announce ‘unemployment allowance’ to youths in Telangana. As the state government is going to face elections in 2019, the ruling TRS is wooing various sectors of voters and the latest in the line are unemployed youth. However, it is not clear whether  it will announce the new scheme for the unemployed youth in the ensuing budget or announce the scheme just before next elections. According to sources, the Integrated Household Survey carried in 2014 by the state government will be the base for deciding the number of unemployed youths in the state.  The reason behind the TRS thinking of giving unemployment allowance is that TJAC chief Kodandaram has been criticising it for failing to provide jobs.
