India, WI women to set pitch for Mulapadu ground’s ODI debut

VIJAYAWADA: The stage is set for the ICC Women’s Championship between India and West Indies at Mulapadu cricket ground from November 10 to 22.

Three One-Day Internationals and three T20 matches will be played as part of the series being hosted by the Andhra Cricket Association.
ODIs will start at 9 am and T20 matches at 1:30 pm at the Mulapadu cricket ground of the Krishna District Cricket Association (KDCA).

It is the first  international cricket series to be held in the district.
Representatives of ACA and captains of India and West Indies women’s cricket teams interacted with the media here on Tuesday.

Indian cricket team captain Mithali Raj said: “We are confident of performing well in the One Day International tournament against West Indies as it is the right platform for us to correct our batting technique and other flaws ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England and Wales in June 2017.”
Commenting on the pitch conditions at the Mulapadu cricket ground, she said: “It is likely to suit both batsmen and bowlers.”

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor exuded confidence of winning the ODI tournament against India.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Gokaraju Gangaraju, Indian team coach Purnima Rau, West Indies coach Vasbert Conniel Drakes and other supporting staff were also present at the news conference.
