

Bajaj Auto, the country’s second largest motorcycle maker, has introduced many a brands that have grabbed attention.
Bajaj Pulsar, one of the most successful motorcycle brands, is developed by the product engineering division of Bajaj Auto in association with their R & D department in Tokyo and motorcycle designer Glynn Kerr. Bajaj Pulsar is available in five variants with 135 cc, 150 cc, 180 cc, 200 cc, and 220 cc engines.
In 2001, Bajaj Auto launched the Pulsar and the brand took the company to soaring heights. Pulsar became the market leader in the 150 cc + performance bike segment and changed the fortune of the company.
Initially Pulsar was launched in two versions, 150cc and 180cc.
The runaway success prompted Bajaj to come out with a second-generation bike. In 2003, Bajaj launched a technology known as the digital twin spark-plug ignition that results in efficient combustion technology, now known as DTS-i. As Bajaj faced stiff competition from other manufacturers, the company decided to focus on the performance.
The third-generation power machine, the Pulsar 200 DTS-i, was launched in 2007. In 2008, Pulsar launched the 220cc version. Targeting the youth, Bajaj focussed more on style and innovation. In April 2009, the Pulsar 150cc and 180cc DTS-i were launched. In June 2009, Pulsar 220cc DTS-i was launched which was has now been discontinued. Instead a new version Pulsar 200NS was launched in 2012.
The Pulsar brand also returns a decent economy. The first Pulsar came with an air-cooled, single-cylinder, petrol, spark-ignited four-stroke engine which made 13 hp of maximum power. Other features were a single spark plug to ignite the air-fuel mixture fed from a carburettor, simple spring shock absorbers, round headlamp dome and 1,265 mm wheelbase. Disc brakes were standard equipment. Other standard features were parking lights and an aircraft-type fuel tank lid. The design of the Bajaj Pulsar is inspired by a wide open muscular human arm.
The increased performance of the brand has taken Bajaj to greater heights. The motorcycle sales are on the rise having crossed the 1.55 lakh mark in FY14.The regular facelifts in the brand has kept the customers wanting for more thus cementing Pulsar's position in the market.
