Volvo India is full on action this 2015 with a bunch of cars already launched and looking forward to releasing a couple of more. The latest to go on the floor, after V40 Cross Country T4, XC90 SUV and V40 hatch, is the new S60 T6.

The re-launch of the entry-level sedan S60’s petrol version in the country is dated 3 July 2015. The S60 was previously launched with a petrol straight six-cylinder engine in an AWD setup, but the vehicle failed to impress. The facelift version, however, gave a miss to the petrol version and became available only in D4 and D5 diesel engines. Volvo is now ready to launch a direct injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine based sedan.

The new Volvo S60 T6 houses a 2-litre four-cylinder direct injected turbo petrol engine that churns out 306hp of power with a maximum torque of 400Nm. The motor transmits power to the front wheels of the car via 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, thus making it a forward wheel drive setup, rather than the previous AWD setup. The vehicle sprints from 0-100kmph in just 5.9 seconds with a top speed of 230kmph. The saloon gives a mileage of 15.6kmpl.

While the diesel version of the S60 will be identical to the one already on sale in the country, the petrol version will borrow some of the design cues of the facelifted car such as active bending projector headlamps, LED DRLs and LED tail lamps.

The interiors of the S60 T6 will feature leather upholstery, an all-digital instrument cluster coupled with a 7-inch infotainment system, power adjustable seats, fixed headrests, electronic climate control system, sunroof and park assist. A laminated front windscreen with infrared rays reflective quality sets the interiors apart from others. Other comfort features include leather-wrapped steering wheel, a three-mode instrument cluster, inner mirror, automatic dimming function and parking holder. Many storage spaces have been provided in the form of cup holders, front door and console storage spaces, etc. Entertainment quotient has been taken care of with an inclusion of an advanced audio system that includes a single-CD player, MP3 coder while DVD player can be found in other variants. Steering mounted audio controls and Bluetooth connectivity is an added feature making the driver at ease.

Safety features have always been world class in Volvo cars and the new S60 will be no different. Safety elements such as interior movement sensor alarm, personal car computer with keyless drive function and central locking system are some of the features available in the top trim. Laser-assisted automatic braking, ABS, advanced stability control, dynamic stability traction control, speed sensitive power steering and cruise control, water repellent laminated windows, are some other features that make the luxury saloon a safe ride.

The S60 T6 will compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz C200 petrol and BMW 328i available in the country. Audi A4 could have been its competitor too had it not continued its petrol version.

The Swedish automaker has been seen taking an aggressive move to expand its product line by introducing new and facelifted models of its luxury lineup this 2015. Though the company has not been unable to carve a niche for itself in the country unlike the Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, the new gen vehicles show a promising sign of future for the automaker.
