To reassert its domination in the 125cc motorcycle segment in India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Limited (HMSI) has recently introduced another product in this category, CB Shine SP. This is an improved version of the popular CB Shine which is already grabbing the 46 percent share of the 125cc segment. This newly launched bike has been positioned above the standard motorcycle and costs around Rs. 4,000 extra for some really good reasons. As this new vehicle is creating a buzz in the market here is our take on the bike where we will explain why one should pay the extra amount and go for the SP version instead of the older one.

Styling: Though, Honda CB Shine SP is a commuter motorcycle, it looks way better than the standard model. Enhancing its aesthetic appeal are the new, sharp headlamp with a curvy bikini fairing, redesigned fuel tank, new body panels, tail lamps and much more. Further, it gets new split-spoke alloy wheels which are looking more stylish than the regular 5-spoke cast wheels. All these updates almost make it visually an all new motorcycle, that looks sportier and more premium in comparison to the regular CB Shine.

Powertrain: The new CB Shine SP powered by the refined 125cc, air-cooled engine as its sibling. The motor continues to deliver the power up to 10.57bhp and torque up to 10.3Nm. However, the 4-speed gearbox of the bike has been replaced with a more efficient 5-speed one and it actually works. The CB Shine SP has a much better response for power delivery and a little faster acceleration. Top speed of the bike is almost similar to the standard model and is around 100kmph.

Feature and Equipment: The new bike has retained some the good features of the old CB Shine like front telescopic forks, rear hydraulic dampers, front disc brake with Nissin caliper (optional), Combi Brake System (optional) and a comfortable riding position. However, it has some new features as well, it has a digital analog meter console, which looks very premium and the brake bite of the front disc is also a little better than its sibling. However, along with these remarkable new features, the company disappoints us when it comes to the tyres, and the company is giving skinny 80/100 section tyres with this 125cc bike. We were expecting it to get 90/100 or 100/90 section tyres like its competitors in the market.

Overall: We like the complete package and are quite impressed with its revised styling and the new 5-speed gearbox. It is a nice decent motorcycle for young riders, who want a fuel efficient and stylish motorcycle for going to their college or office. The bike has many elements to flaunt along with the reliability of Honda CB Shine. Features of the new CB Shine SP perfectly justifies its extra cost with its added features and its front disc + CBS version is like a boon for braking in the commuter segment.
