To grab attention during this festive season, Bajaj Auto has launched an array of 2016 Avenger bikes starting at Rs. 75,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The range includes three new models; Avenger 150 Street with the base price tag of Rs. 75,000 and Avenger 220 Street and Avenger 220 Cruise, both priced at Rs. 84,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Now the natural question arises that what's new in these updated bikes. So, here we are with the answer.
Mechanically all the new models are similar to their predecessor, except the 150cc engine in the new Avenger 150 Street. However, there are many visual updates in the motorcycles, which make them quite new and refreshing.
Starting with the new Avenger Street version, the bike looks inspired by the popular Harley-Davidson Street 750 and gets a dark custom theme. If we talk about the detailing, it has received a redesigned grab rail, new exhaust muffler, rubber bellows on the front forks, 12-spoke front & 9-spoke rear alloy wheel and a modified handlebar for sporty stance. The 220 Street further gets a fascinating Matt Black paint scheme, while its 150cc version offers a stylish Midnight Blue colour.
The new Avenger 220 Cruise looks almost similar to the older version, however, it has refreshed Divine Black paint scheme and some additional chrome elements. It also gets a tweaked exhaust muffler end along with a revamped handlebar for improved ergonomics. All the three new Avengers feature new white hue headlamp, clear lens flexible indicators, modern hand grip pattern, new metallic logos, newly designed foot pegs and digital odo/trip meter.
Powering the new Avenger 220 models is the same 219.9cc, air-cooled DTS-i motor with an oil cooler, which was doing duty in the previous generation as well. There is no change in the performance figures though as it continues to make power up to 18.8bhp at 8,400rpm and a peak torque of 14.5Nm at 9,000rpm. The new Avenger 150 houses a 149cc DTS-i engine, specially tuned for better low and mid range torque. It puts out a maximum power of 14.3bhp at 9,000rpm and torque up to 12.5Nm at just 6,500rpm.
The 2016 Bajaj Avengers come with telescopic front and twin hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. The bike run on MRF Zapper, 90/90 x 17” up front and 130/90 x 15” rear tyre. The braking system of the 220 models is same with a 260mm disc brake at the front and a 130mm drum type unit at the rear, while the 150 version has a smaller 240mm disc at the front.
All the new Avengers looks impressive and they can give a great collection to the company in terms of sales in the coming days of the festive season. Again, the bikes will take advantage of being solo players in their category and being a treat for the buyers who are looking for an affordable cruiser machine.
