If you thought online shopping was limited to shoes, bags, grocery and air tickets, it’s time to wake up and smell the engine fumes. Auctionata, a Berlin-headquartered online auction house and eCommerce company specialising in art, antiques and collectibles, has announced the first-ever online auction dedicated to Ferraris on September 27. The sale will feature 27 models by the Italian marque. You can expect to find the Ferrari F310B Formula One car that won a Japanese Grand Prix with Michael Schumacher at the wheel (starting price €650,000) and the dark red 1965 Ferrari GTB/2 Short Nose, one of just 250 such models produced by Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina (starting price €1.2 million). So far, Ferrari has had a bit of a fabulous year at the auctions. At a recent Sotheby sale, a red 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, one of just 32 examples ever produced during the 1960s, achieved $17.6 million, setting a record price for the model.

A recent Bonhams’ sale saw a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Competizione Alloy Berlinetta, with coachwork by Scaglietti and design by Pinin Farina sell for $8.5 million. The Gooding & Company, which is a car auction company based in Santa Monica, California, sold a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider for $16.8 million, while a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Speciale fetched $16.5 million.

Auctionata’s online sale is being done largely to guage how much the super fast car can fetch up to, so the owners who are still reluctant to sell see greater purpose in putting up their beauties for sale. What’s waiting to be seen is how much Ferrari aficionados will bid on revered models this online sale will make available to them. This also includes the 1977 Ferrari 512 BB, painted ‘azzurro metallizzato’ (starting price €200,000) and a unique Sbarro P4 model, exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show in the 1980s.
