BENGALURU: We have always grown up believing we can choose to be whoever we want to be and Comic Con is once space that lets you do just that. City Express catches up with first time cosplayers and professionals as they gear up with their custome preparations.
Ryan Menezes, a fine arts student, is going to be Jason Voorhees, the main character from the Friday the 13th series. He already has his costume ready- mangled, worn out clothes, with a mask and brown boots. What makes Ryan look exactly like Jason Voorhees, is the torn shirt he wears with a machete; and a ski mask with lots of holes, he says. It would be a sin to not mention how loyal Ryan has been to Comic Con. 2016 will be his fifth time! He cosplayed as Boba Fett, a fictional character in Star Wars the previous year. When asked how things went while preparing for his costume, the art lover mentioned his improved craftsmanship has made things simpler. Things to do: Look for Jason Voorhees!
Shamika Biswas, a 19-year-old anime lover, is dressing up to be Frisk, the main protagonist of the role-playing game- Undertale. This fictional character wears a blue sweater with pink stripes, shorts, stockings and boots. “I had to buy pink and blue sweaters since I wasn’t getting the exact combination I wanted. I’m going to cut the pink to stick on the blue for the final finish,” says Shamika.
Fathima Shaiyek, on the other hand, is going to be Raven, a fictional superhero from the series, Teen Titans Go. Black bodysuit, stockings, purple hair, and a third eye gem defines this comic book character. Fathima is yet to add a belt to her outfit, which by the way will be DIY. And the final touch would be- a blue cape. Two years ago, she attended Comic Con as the Catwoman!
Sahiti Gavarikar, a Mount Carmel student, has decided to cosplay Jessica Jones. Boots, black leather jacket, grey T-shirt and fingerless gloves are what it takes to be this private investigator. It might seem easy; but for the first-timer Sahiti, it was everything but easy. In her own words, she had to ‘beg, borrow, steal’ to get her costume right.
Another first-timer and YouTube lover, Deepten Sarkar, has decided to be the man who inspires him the most- Casey Neistat. When asked how he arranged for the sunglasses, he said, “I bought cheap sunglasses and painted the rim in white. Budget!” The best part about cosplay is the creativity that goes into it. Ryan’s machete and mask, both are DIY. So is Shamika’s sweater! Fathima is planning to make her belt with cardboard and POP; her cape with curtains. Sahiti asked a million people to get the perfect kind of boots, jacket and gloves. Deepten painted his glasses to be the man he wishes to be.
