BENGALURU: While one part of Sarjapur is booming with apartments, much of the area is not provided with Cauvery water by BWSSB as it does not fall under its jurisdiction. As a result, the dependence on private tankers is huge.
With BWSSB not even supplying water from its tankers here due to the time taken on a jam-packed route from its water filling point at HSR Layout, the water situation is precarious.

V R Joy, secretary of Sarjapur Residents’ Welfare Association, which has 30 apartments and villas here, recalls the good water yield from the borewells just five years ago. “I moved from Shantinagar to this area 10 years ago. There was no water problem then. Since the last three years, my borewell has gone dry and I pay `600 each month for a private tanker,” he says.

An ardent campaigner for rejuvenation of lakes, Joy says there are 26 lakes in the area. “Only one lake is not polluted. If an effort can be made to rejuvenate them, the groundwater table in the area will increase and borewells will have water.”

The Sobha Daisy Condominium in Green Glam Layout off Sarjapur Road is among the few places that has a separate pipeline to get BWSSB water. Tarun Banerjee, former president of its welfare association, says, “We get Cauvery water thrice a week. With 183 flats, we require 85,000 litres of water daily. Most of us hire a water tanker once a month paying `450 each. We are allowed to buy from only three agencies. With summer beginning, they are now demanding we pay more.”
