BENGALURU: Former cricket captain of India Anil Kumble visited the Village Clinic, a medical camp held on every Sunday at T Begur village, 35 km from the city. He distributed walking sticks to the elderly as a part of the intiative ‘Walk with Dignity’ organised by the Village Clinic.
Village Clinic was started on August 15, 1973, by city-based cardiologist and physician Dr B Ramana Rao after he completed his MBBS. “The camp functions only on Sundays,” says Dr Abhijit Bhograj, an endocrinologist from the city who volunteers at the clinic. “For four decades, Dr Ramana Rao has been running it continuously on every Sunday. The motto of this camp was to make quality healthcare accessible to the villagers. He wanted to dedicate one day for the healthcare of the villagers.”
Dr Abhijit and his cardiologist brother Dr Charit Bhograj have been working for a decade with this clinic. Dr Abhijit adds, “The doctors providing service keep changing on the basis of theme of that Sunday. There are villagers who volunteer at the camp. There are four dentists from Bengaluru and six nursing staff at the Village Clinic.”
Over two million patients have been treated here over 43 years, claims Dr Abhijit.
