BENGALURU: The Australian film industry remains relatively unknown to movie lovers around the world, primarily due to its boom and bust nature and being overshadowed by Hollywood.
However, several Australian actors have managed to gain the limelight in Hollywood, ranging from Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett to Chris Hemsworth.
Movie lovers will get a chance to see few select movies from the country at the “The Australian Film Showcase”.

The event is being held as a partnership between the Australian consulate general, Chennai and Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.
Sean Kelly, Australian Consul-General, Chennai who inaugurated the festival at Ritz Carlton said, “Our objective is to introduce Australian cinema to the people of Bengaluru and promote collaboration between the Australian and Kannada film industries.” The festival will be held from May 12 to May 14 at INOX , Mantri Square. This is the third edition of the festival.

Eight Australian movies spanning across multiple genres, ranging from a biography to thriller and even a comedy film will be screened.
 The film showcase will also include a film collaboration workshop include actor Bryan Brown and producer Nelson Woss. It will be held on May 12. The workshop will be on co-production, filming locations, technical aspects, lighting, sound, stunts and post production. 

Red Dog and
Red Dog:True Blue

Synopsis:
Red Dog series, consisting of the first movie ‘Red Dog’ as well as a prequel to the movie that was released in 2016 ‘Red Dog , True Blue’. The screening in Bengaluru will be the first release of the movie in Asia. It is based on the true story of a Red Dog and the bond it shares with his ‘True Master’.

The Dressmaker

‘The Dressmaker’ , starring Kate Winslet and Australian Actor Liam Hemsworth is about a beautiful dressmaker who returns to her town to right the wrongs of her past after she was accused of a murder.

Dirty Deeds

‘Dirty Deeds’, directed by David Caesar, revolves around the comic experiences of a Mobster, Barry Ryan and his encounters with the American Mafia.

Swerve

Synopsis:
Thriller Drama ‘Swerve’, is about a man who crosses path with a dirty cop and an assassin, and finds himself in the middle of a dangerous scheme after discovering a bag full of cash.

The Sapphires
When: May 14 at 5:58 pm
Synopsis: Musical comedy drama film, ‘The Sapphires’ is a movie about four indigenous women who travel to Vietnam to sing for the US troops during wartime.

Lion
When: May 14 at 3:30 pm
Synopsis:  Academy award nominated movie, ‘Lion’ which revolves around the journey of a boy who gets lost on a train and later gets adopted by an Australian couple will also be screened.The movie traces his journey from childhood through adulthood and how he tracks down his birth mother.

Force of Destiny
When: May 13 at 7:50 pm
Synopsis:
‘Force of the Destiny’ features Indian female actor, Shahana Goswami and David Wenham. It is about a man’s miraculous journey through a life saving transplant.
