BENGALURU: It’s a story that repeats countless times. A domestic worker or semi-skilled worker in a Gulf country is made promises of good salary and a good life only to find everything go wrong.
Typically, sorting out the problem in favour of the Indians is a nightmare for the Indian embassies and consulates, as there is not much leverage when dealing with the Middle-east governments.

With more workers from Karnataka leaving to the Middle East, the Karnataka NRI Forum wants people to register with the Ministry of External Affairs website emigrate.gov.in so that they can keep track of people who are leaving and help them if they get into trouble.
Seven individuals and companies operating in Karnataka as illegal agents have also been identified and further investigations are on.

“We do not have a clue who is leaving and where they are going to. It is only when they get in trouble that we hear about it and by then it is very difficult. They also do not know that they are supposed to approach registered agents for such migration. We are also aware that many of these are unskilled people and are unlikely to register on a website themselves, so we are trying to see if we can rope in the district administration,” said Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum, Arathi Krishna, on Thursday.

Out of the 43 companies and individuals identified nationwide for being unauthorised agents, seven of them operate in Karnataka. They are - Asif and Mohammad Abid in R T Nagar, Big Jobs Consultancy, IOCS Group, Bonafide Trust of India in JP Nagar.
A complaint was also lodged against Suriya HRS Facility Management Services Private Limited in Link road by the Consulate General in Bali for illegal trafficking of Indians.
