BENGALURU: Newly appointed DG&IGP Neelamani Raju had served over two decades with central agencies before she returned to the state in March 2016.Born on January 17, 1960 in Roorkee of Uttarakhand, she has a masters degree in Economics apart from MBA and MPhil. She is an 1983 batch IPS officer who has served for 34 years, most of it on central deputation. The Karnataka cadre IPS officer started as probationer IPS in Belagavi district, before serving as ASP of Chintamani, Kolar district, SP of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and SP of Bengaluru district.
She was selected for central deputation to Intelligence Bureau in May 1993 as assistant director. Later, she served in various positions of IB till March 2016. She was also the first secretary in Indian embassy, Kathmandu. She has also served as immigration commissioner of India from April 2005 till December 2008. Before returning to the state in March 2016, she served as additional director of IB.
She is also recipient of Indian Police Medal and President’s Police Medal for her services.
