BENGALURU: A white Lamborghini was spotted doing donuts (a manoeuvre where the driver spins the vehicle in a continuous circle and creates smoke) at Anil Kumble Circle on MG Road under the Metro flyover in the early hours of Saturday.
A video, recorded by either a motorist or a resident, had tagged the Bengaluru Traffic Police seeking action.
The video, posted on X at 7.57 am on Saturday, has gone viral. Along with the 10-second video, a photograph of the car, clearly showing its registration number KA-05-NR-0009, too has been posted on the social media site.
Car owner unknown, registration number under lens
In the photograph, the car’s sunroof is seen open, but no occupants are seen standing out.
The post read, “Video from last night in Bengaluru. Lamborghini KA 05 NR 0009 seen repeatedly doing donuts at a public junction under a flyover while other vehicles were present, posing a safety risk”.
Another netizen replied that it must be an unregistered vehicle as the number does not throw up any results on the NetxGen mParivahan, a government-run website and app.
“A suo motu case has been registered by the jurisdictional Cubbon Park traffic police. The luxury sports car was caught on camera drifting and posing a threat to other motorists at the Anil Kumble Circle junction on MG Road between 2 am and 3 am. We are checking the details of the car’s owner. We are also probing if a fake registration number was used.
A letter will be sent to the Transport Department recommending cancellation of the registration certificate,” said an officer. The officers are also checking whether the car owner has insured the vehicle or evaded it as is done by most owners of such high-end luxury cars.
“We checked the CCTV footage from the vicinity. There seems to be two people sitting inside the car. Nobody was standing out of the sunroof. Details of the car’s registration number are being checked,” the officer said. A case of rash driving on a public way under Section 281 of BNS has been registered against the unknown car owner.
