CHENNAI: DHL Global Forwarding, a leader in global logistics business, on Wednesday, opened its state-of-the-art Free Trade Warehousing Zone at Sriperumbudur near Chennai, at an involvement $ 10 million for the mega infrastructure.

Speaking to the select media group about the new facility, Christoph Remund, CEO, DHL Forwarding, said that the company would be creating a similar facility in Mumbai by early 2012 and in New Delhi by mid-2012, to help the new geographies in the logistics network.

He also said the company would offer value-added services to the customers from manufacturing, oil and energy sectors, besides information technology, telecom and automotive sectors, all for retaining the large number of clientele across the spectrum.

“We are well into extending our services to the growing aerospace sector with a large number of airlines showing enormous interest in the aircraft industry,’’ he said.

“A dedicated team will look after the growing aero sector and make the logistics business more rewarding and interesting in so many ways.’’

Amadou Diallo, CEO, Africa & South Asia DHL Global Forwarding, said that the company enjoyed over one million customers across the world, with strong bases in Singapore, Dubai and Panama.

“India is becoming a major hub for the company’s logistics business and Chennai holds lots of promise on that count, all because of the presence of auto majors,’’ he added.
