CHENNAI: Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) is a great boon to the industry across the spectrum as the exercise serves to promote inspection, process control and inspection of the final product down the line, said Prabhat Kumar, distinguished scientist, Director (Construction), BHAVINI, and Project Director, PFBR Project, Kalpakkam.

The five-day seminar organised by the Indian Society for Non Destructive Testing (NDT) was inaugurated by J Mahilselvan, Director (Power), Neyveli Lignite Corporation, at the Chennai Trade Centre here on Wednesday.

While Prabhath Kumar released the seminar souvenir, Ing Christian Boller, Director, Fraunhofer Institute of NDT, Germany, unveiled the Technical Proceedings of the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, Prabhat Kumar said, “Non-destructive testing plays a vital role in providing an excellent balance between quality control and cost effectiveness. Non-destructive evaluation is an important tool for assessing the component conditions of products in any industry for that matter.’’

“As Non Destructive Testing is key to ensuring the quality and reliability of industrial products, there is a constant demand for qualified NDT professionals in the country,” he added.

V Pari, Chairman, International Organising Committee, NDE 2011, said, “Non Destructive Testing is a highly valuable technique that can save both money and time in product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research. NDT is a commonly-used tool in forensic engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, systems engineering, aeronautical engineering, medicine and art.”

“The non-destructive evaluation seminar provides an effective platform for NDE professionals from all over the world to meet, interact and exchange ideas that are of interest to the NDE community, including specialists from industry, research institutions and academia,” Pari noted.

Around 1,500 delegates from different branches of manufacturing, mining, aerospace, power and petrochemical, R & D institutes and Universities are participating in the flagship event.
