Dell in Talks With Government to Increase Capacity Utilisation at Chennai Plant

CHENNAI: Electronics manufacturer Dell India is in talks with the government to increase capacity utilisation in their Chennai plant in Sriperumbudur. According to company officials who were in Chennai today, better utilising existing capacity would enable them to leverage the increasing demand for Personal Computers in the domestic market.

P Krishnakumar, VP & GM of Consumer & Small Business, said during a video conference session with reporters today that the company is seeing an increase in demand, especially from its centres in tier 3  and smaller cities. "We are currently in discussions with the government regarding the same. With the growth of the PC market in India, there is scope to utilize the capacity of the Chennai factory to leverage the increasing demand for PCs in the domestic market and increase PC availability across the country,” he said. However, he refused to divulge any further information on what the current capacity utilsation was. The installed capacity of the Chennai unit is 3 million units per annum.
